We visited for a family lunch in April 26. Unfortunately our experience this time was much below par for a restaurant of this repute. Personally for me, having been a customer of many a Taj Hotel properties and restaurants across the country, this experience was a surprise. Our order was all jumbled up and delayed,no one really attended to the table once food was laid and the speciality meal offered wasn’t the best of Taj quality. I am sure, this must have been a one off incident due to whatever limitations they had on that particular day, but a customer’s experience every time must remain the prime focus-especially in the hospitality business. A simple word “ sorry” makes a lot of difference.
Dining Experience at Karavalli, Taj We recently dined at Karavalli at the Taj, and overall it was a memorable experience that beautifully showcases coastal Indian cuisine. We started with the Malabar prawns, which were absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked, flavourful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. Next, we tried the lady fish fry. While it was decent, it didn’t quite meet the high benchmark set by the other dishes. The seasoning and texture could have been better. The true star of the evening was the Crab Curry—rich, aromatic, and packed with authentic coastal flavours. Paired with Malabar paratha, cooked to perfection, and appams that were light, soft, and mouth-watering, this combination was exceptional. For dessert, we tried the bibimbap. While it was enjoyable, it felt average for the price and didn’t quite stand out compared to the mains. A special mention to the wonderful team who made our dining experience even better with their warm hospitality and attentive service: Shyin, Yenoch, Pradeep, and Chef Ram Chandra. Their professionalism and genuine care truly elevated the evening. Overall, Karavalli offers an authentic and refined coastal dining experience. While a couple of dishes could be improved, the standout seafood, impeccable breads, and excellent service make it a place worth revisiting.
