We were, unfortunately, an hour early to our lunch reservation, but the staff was very accommodating to still get us started. For the food, we opted for the smaller plates to share and there were zero misses. We did prefer the non-vegetarian options better, but everything was excellent. There were also really good craft beer options from Indian breweries. Overall, The Bombay Canteen met or exceeded all of our expectations.
We had a bit of a mixed experience at The Bombay Canteen. The appetizers were the absolute highlight and didn’t miss a beat. The Duck Momos and Tandoori Lamb Chops were standouts, and the Chicken Seekh and Eggs Kejriwal were also excellent. If you’re coming here, the small plates are definitely where the kitchen shines. Unfortunately, the mains and heavier dishes came up a bit short compared to the start of the meal. The Fish Gassi, the Military Hotel Style Chicken Pepper Roast, and the Clay Pot Mutton Rice weren't bad, but they weren't amazing either—they just lacked the "wow" factor of the starters. We also found the breads to be hit-or-miss; the Malabar Paratha was perfectly fine, but the Multigrain Chur Chur Paratha was mediocre. It’s a great spot for vibes and service, but my advice is to go heavy on the appetizers and light on the mains!
Bombay Canteen is a must eat when in Mumbai. The ambience, the staff and the food is on point. They take the restaurant experience very seriously and want to ensure you have a great time. Everything about this place is unique and has a special story behind it. We ordered a bunch of things. The eggs kejriwal is a must try. Their deserts were really good and beverages crafted really well. They also have plenty of vegetarian options. They also take allergies into account and modify their dishes to accommodate your needs, which is really appreciated. It’s extremely popular, almost like a tourist attraction in Mumbai. It is almost always very busy so if you’re planning to go, book a reservation way in advance. Don’t forget to pet the adorable cats at the front.
