At SSKM / IPGMER Fair Price Medicine Shop, patients are reportedly being overcharged above the MRP, in some cases ₹1100 extra per person. This is a direct violation of: Consumer Protection Act 2019 Drug Price Control Order (DPCO), 2013 Rules governing Fair Price Medicine Shops in West Bengal A fair-price store has no legal right to charge even ₹1 above the printed MRP. This type of overbilling is not just unethical — it is illegal, and it exploits patients who are already suffering and financially pressured. I request: 1. Health Department, Govt. of West Bengal 2. Drugs Control Administration, West Bengal 3. Hospital Management of SSKM/IPGMER to investigate this matter immediately and take strict action against the responsible parties. Fair Price Medicine Shop is unique system of Mamata Banerjee i.e. Trinamul Congress. Previously we got the medicines through a chain. For this chain medicine companies gave 67.25% to the middle man. Didi broke the chain and buy medicine direct from the company. For this, upto district level hospital the facility can achieve. Fair Price Medicine Shop in the SSKM Hospital is one of the lifeline of the hospital.
Good service, dedicated staff. Seperate counter for prescription and payment. 67 percentage discount on medicine. Though all medicine is not available. Some medicines are alternatives to prescribed names but same composition. This is very good initiative of Government of West Bengal.
