This temple is one of the most glorious temples in the Indian subcontinent . The trust which maintains the temple is one of the elite temple trusts in india involved in many charitable works. Founder of the temple was Shree Dagadusheth Halwai, a sweet merchant from Karnataka who supported many social reformers, freedom fighters in their endeavors for independent india during late 19th century. Following are the reasons why this temple is one of the topmost tourist places in the pune district - 1. The temple was established by Sweet merchant Shree Dagadusheth Halwai in 1893 . He was previously wrestling trainer also and supported the social reformers, freedom fighters like Bal Gangadhar Tilak to bring people together and fight for independent india. as a part of support to integrity in community, the tradition of Ganeshotsav ( Glorious celebrations of Lord Ganesha for ten days in August or September) were followed by him. The Shrimant Dagadusheth Halwai temple became the centre of celebrating ganeshotsav 2. The first idol of the temple is currently in the Aakra Maruti Temple in shukrawar peth. The glorious idol we see at present in the main temple at Shree Dagadusheth Halwai temple is the third idol established by the trust. The current idol is decorated with lots of precious gem stones, silver and gold. 3. On every special hindu festival, the temple is decorated with the relevant theme of that festival . In month of may, a beautiful decoration of mangoes is done which looks very stunning. 4. Crowd and rush are the biggest concern around the temple during days devoted for rituals related with lord Ganesha like Tuesday, Wednesday , Angaraki Chaturthi , Sankashti Chaturthi . So, If you don't like too much of crowd and rush you should avoid visiting temple on these days. 5. Around the temple, there are many popular shops to buy traditional maharashtrian things as a souvenir like Lord Ganesha idol, Paithani saree, Paithani coat for men , Kolhapuri Chappal , Maharashtrian sweets like kandi pedha, basundi. Famous markets are at a walking distance from the temple so you can also enjoy buying goods of all types like furniture, home decor, kitchen utensils, clothing etc. nearby after visiting the temple .
A blessed visit to Dagdusheth Ganapati Temple, Pune, with my family. We were fortunate to complete the darshan within approximately 15–20 minutes despite the heavy crowd on a Friday. Photography is not allowed inside the temple, which helps maintain the sanctity and devotional atmosphere. During our visit, beautiful bhajans were being sung, and the spiritual energy could be felt throughout the temple. The bhajans were continuing both when we entered and when we came out, making the experience even more memorable. As seen in the photos and videos attached, the temple was crowded with devotees, yet the darshan process was well managed. Receiving the blessings of Lord Ganapati filled our hearts with peace, positivity, and happiness. A must-visit temple in Pune for devotees seeking divine blessings and a spiritually uplifting experience. 🙏 Ganapati Bappa Morya! 🙏 🙏 Mangal Murti Morya! 🙏 🙏 Shreemant Dagdusheth Ganapati Maharaj Ki Jai! 🙏
One of the most famous and spiritually uplifting temples in Pune. The idol of Lord Ganesha is magnificent, beautifully decorated with gold ornaments and flowers. The atmosphere around the temple is very peaceful and devotional despite the heavy crowd. The temple is well managed, and the darshan queue moves smoothly most of the time. The surrounding area is clean, and security arrangements are good. During festivals, especially Ganesh Chaturthi, the decorations and celebrations are grand and truly worth experiencing. Located in the heart of the city, it is easily accessible, but parking can be a bit challenging during peak hours.
